Better

Today has been a strange mix of hectic and relaxed.
Is that even possible?

I'm a minimalist, so I enjoy streamlining and simplifying.
That is what I did with our homeschool agenda for this year.

My oldest is so far advanced in both her math and reading abilities, that I really have no need to push her.
I still want to challenger her though.

The main thing I want her to learn this year is to feel comfortable doing handwriting
and to do things she is asked even when she doesn't want to.

Beyond that, I feel like exposure to classics is important,
so we're reading The Wizard of Oz together.
She'll read on her own incessantly no matter what I do.
No need to encourage that.

Everyday we'll do a math lesson just to learn something new,
and practice our old math skills just because it's fun.

Science and history tend to just come up in our discussions and reading.
Easy.

With the little ones,
I've checked out the book Slow and Steady, Get Me Ready,
which has an activity for every week of a child's life from birth to age five.

I intend to spend every extra moment I can showering them with attention,
playing with them,
reading to them,
singing and dancing together,
along with plenty of kissing and cuddling.

The highlight of my day was playing princesses with my littles. We made our princesses say the letter sounds when the stepped on the letter blocks in their "castle."
We also acted out the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff,
only our version was the Three Princesses.
We replayed the story again and again with whatever variations my middle child wanted.
She now knows the story by heart.

All of this has made today turn out to be a much better day than yesterday.

I hope for many more days like today.
